Activities completed:
Making booklets, publicizing the Rural Land Contract Law (RLCL) in various ways, eg, on TV (in January and February) in market day (March.11) etc.
Handling 7 legal cases.

3.ACWF, Department of Law and Rights
Activities completed :
Workshop on Women & Tenure rights (Dec.03-Dec. 05,2003)
Convened groups of senior government (provincial level) and judicial officials, altogether 116 participants.

Activities in process: developing a manual for training women's federation cadres, inviting experts from Chinese Women's College for write the manual, will convene meeting after Labor Day holiday about the manual and training network.

Ms. Guo Ye of ACWF Department of Law and Rights is responsible for the activities yet Ms.Zhang Ying and Ms. Guo Jia, Division of Project, Department of International Affairs will handle the reports, both of them were not able to reach now (business trip and personal reasons) they will pass on to us detailed plan and more materials after couple of weeks.

5. Department of Sociology, University of Western Ontario
Activities done or in process.
Fieldwork: August-December, 2003, in Dingzhou, Hebei Province.

Plans for next 6 months
Second visit of the village in June for about three weeks. It was original planed in May, but is postponed to June due to a surgery in Later April.

Dissertation will be finished by the end of this year or earlier next year.

6. Chinese Academy of Sciences, Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy
Activities
1) Literature review on various aspects of land tenure and gender - from legal, political and socio-economic prospective, and trying to work out a reasonable work plan, especially field survey plan.

2) made a couple of pilot tests during our field works with other projects. Specifically, re-collected information on the status on women's access to land;

Outputs
1) A simple data set on what have been the policy of land re-allocation to women, new-born baby and widow at village level. The sample covers a large set of villages (more than 4600 villages);
2) A draft fieldwork plan (this is yet to be discussed further before we can really implement it).
Plans for next 6 months
1) Develop detailed project implementation plan;
2) Finish survey instruments design;
3) Finish major field survey work (both systematic interviews and case studies).

 
7.Rural Development Institute (RDI), Beijing Representative Office

As confirmed by Mr. Li Ping, RDI has been and will be on a on-call basis, which means they would like to take part in and to offer their help in training programs if needed by the other organizers.
