¡¡¡¡The objective of this program is to study how the rural poor and other vulnerable groups can benefit from China¡¯s rapid economic development process, and how in the context of an emerging market economy public policies can be instituted to ensure the dual goals of economic development and equity. Major research areas include:

¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Rural labor markets, rural to urban labor migration, rural poverty and
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡income distribution policy studies;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Rural credit and rural development and poverty;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Rural land market development and issues of the access of women to
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡land;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Evaluation of poverty alleviation policies;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Integrated urban management systems, policy reforms and policies for
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡the creation of new job opportunities;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Community governance and rural public investment, and the relationship
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡between the provision of public goods and services and rural
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡development;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡¡Urbanization and issues of land management.
