¡¡Following economic globalization and trade liberalization, and the subsequent acceleration of China¡¯s domestic market integration, expansion and changes in regional comparative advantage and urbanization, China is in dire need of the creation of a set of agricultural development policy analysis tools and a decision support system. This research program has made this its primary research goal so as to allow the research capacity of each of the Center¡¯s departments focus on and develop the following research efforts:

¡¡¡¡¡ö¡AAnalysis of the changing trends of production and consumption of China¡¯s
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡agricultural products and their key determinants;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡IImpacts of sectoral and macro policies on supply, demand, price, and trade of
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡China¡¯s agricultural products, and on the production, income and level of
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡poverty of households across China¡¯s various regions;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡IImpacts of economic globalization, trade liberalization, and policy changes of
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡China¡¯s main trade partners on national and regional agricultural production,
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡farm income and poverty;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡SShort-, medium-, and long-term projections of the supply, demand, price and
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡trade of China¡¯s agricultural commodities;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡UUtilize and develop spatial econometric methodologies and spatial equilibrium
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡models for analysis of i.) economic and policy impacts on use of renewable
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡land and water resources, and ii.) regional economic development programs
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡and strategies for regional sustainable agricultural development;
¡¡¡¡¡ö¡BBuild and develop the models and analytical frameworks for China¡¯s
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Agricultural Policy Analysis and Decision Support System (DSS).
