Project overview CCAP started to work on rural public investments for more than 10 years since 1998. The first project on rural public investment was a joint project with IFPRI on “The Impacts of Public Investments in Rural China”. Consequently, the group also successfully applied for a small research grant from China National Natural Sciences Foundation (NSFC) on “Priority Setting of Public Investment in Rural Areas of China”. Using both provincial and county level time series data, these two projects have published two books in Chinese and few journal papers and presented research results in many academic conferences, government departments (NDRC, MOF, MOA and etc.)and developing agencies (ADB, WB, FAO and etc.). Since then, CCAP continued to expand its work on rural investments into community level. With funding support from the Chinese Government, the World Bank, Ford Foundation, CCAP was able to build up a unique community public goods investment dataset which covered more than 2400 villages in 6 provinces (2003 Rural Development Survey Dataset”. It was the first time that we were able to understand “who”, “how” and “what” have been invested in rural communities as public goods investments. Later on, with support from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, NSFC and CIDA, CCAP successfully updated the information to recent years(2007 Rural Investment Survey Dataset) with specific attention paid to the investment environment (ie. the governance structure in the communities, rural fiscal reforms). With the dataset, the research team was able to public widely in both Chinese and International journals and also made strong policy influences.Publication list |
